Choosing wiring accessories for the office

As businesses expand and more computers are needed, the cords for use around computers become more complicated. Simply adding one more machine that uses electricity requires at least one more power cord. Several cords may be needed such as  power cords for the computer and monitor, monitor connection cords, printer connection cords, LAN cables, and so on. Too many unorganized cords not only reduce motivation, but can also be the cause of accidents. In this article, we will explain how to choose different types of wiring accessories to keep your area neat and tidy.

What are wiring accessories?

In general, wiring accessories are items used for organizing AC power cords for home appliances and various cords in the AV environment. In recent years, with the spread of personal computers, many products used in organizing cords are being sold.

Different types of wiring accessories

Wiring accessories are available in a variety of types and purposes, including those that improve the appearance of the wiring, those that provide clear organization, and those that improve safety. By understanding the characteristics of each type of wiring accessory you can choose the one that best fits your environment.

Cable ties

Cable ties, also known as insulocks or cable ties, are the most common wiring accessories. They are used in a variety of fields because of their high binding strength and low cost, although they have a simple mechanism to prevent disconnection by passing the tie through the jagged portion.

Made of flame-retardant nylon and other materials, they are sturdy and were also used for attaching traffic violation notices, etc. Some cable ties for office automation equipment are designed to allow notes to be written on them, making them easy to reassemble when cables are removed during transportation.

Cable ties are disposable, but recently reusable cable ties like the one with Velcro tape are also being sold on the market. A wide variety of colors are available, making it possible to choose one that matches the interior design.

Cable covers

Cable covers are used to hide the wiring and protect it from dirt. The two common types are the braid type and spiral tube type.

Cable molding

Cable moldings are used by attaching a base to the floor or wall using double-sided tape or screws, placing the cords over the base, and then attaching a cover over the top. By combining an angled type for corners, cables and cords can be securely hidden for a cleaner appearance.

However, since they are usually made of relatively hard materials such as ABS resin, they have a fixed capacity, and multiple tubes may be used to hide a large number of cords.

Spiral tube

A spiral tube is a spiral cable cover made of polyethylene or other material. Multiple cords are grouped together then wrapped with the spiral tube . It can be used to cover cords that are suspended  mid-air and has a large capacity, but it does not look as sleek as it should.

Cable moldings  are stronger in terms of strength, while the spiral tube type is superior in terms of lightness and ease of use. Both types protect cords from dirt, but the cable moldings are often used in offices because it is expected to prevent accidents such as tripping over cords.

Cable clips and clamps

Cable clips are wiring accessories made of metal or resin, and are used to secure cables to desks and walls. Resin cable clips can be used repeatedly for one-touch cable bundling. The metal ones are used to secure cables by folding the claws, but are usually attached with double-sided tape or the like, making them disposable in many cases.

Both of these types have a fixed capacity of cables that can be fixed, so it is necessary to prepare more than one cable clip to fix a large number of cables. Cable clips are not suitable for installation on the floor or other places where they can easily get dirty or snagged, because they are designed to hold a part of the cable in place.

On the other hand, they can be used effectively on walls, etc. Some items can be magnetically attached to lockers, etc.

Connector caps

These items are used to protect PCs from dust. Dust adhering to unused terminals can cause poor contact or malfunction even when the terminals are ready to be used. Connector caps are inserted into unused USB, HDMI, and AV terminals to prevent dust from entering.

In particular, USB terminals are used to connect many peripherals, so it is necessary to take good care of them so that there will not be any trouble in case of emergency.

A clean and organized environment with cables and cords will motivate workers and improve productivity. However, cords left carelessly on the floor can cause tripping hazards, which can lead to injuries and damaged data. It is important to know the features of each type of wiring accessories and to choose the right product that suits each purpose.
